The Windy City Will Satisfy All Your Needs!

Chicago never disappoints for a quick weekend away. You have the hustle of the big city and the vacation vibe of the lake. Whether you go for Lollapalooza, the Air and Boat show, the Taste of Chicago or the host of additional events that take place, you are guaranteed to enjoy.

I was lucky enough to have to travel there for business several times and I also have family in Chicago so it’s an easy getaway. I have stayed at many hotels in Chicago and like to try new spots. I always base my choice of hotel on location and then value. One of my favorites was The Autograph Hotel, EMC2 which is very close to Michigan Avenue and has a very cool vibe. It has interesting decor from the restaurant to the actual rooms and they even have robots roaming the hallways.

As far as food choices, the delicious restaurants are too numerous to name but there a couple to highlight and one I had seen on the Bravo channel and had taken note. It’s called River Roast and it has a nice patio on the river with live music and fantastic food. The portions are enormous, we had 6 people & shared the chicken and pork… the pork sauce was sinful! We also tried the carrots with dirt that the waitress suggested, AMAZING! Shaw’s Crab House is another iconic restaurant with spectacular food located near some blues clubs for post dinner entertainment. Try the surf and turf and the raspberry pie for dessert. Hint: ask for it warmed up! You’ll thank me:)

Something not to miss is the brunch served at the Signature Room on the 95th floor of the Hancock Building. The most awe-inspiring view of Chicago, tasty cocktails and a brunch difficult to beat anywhere! A definite must do, for me, every trip I take to Chicago.

I truly love everything about Chicago. The speakeasies, galleries, shopping…. it’s the heart of the Midwest. Something for everyone and in light of the upcoming St Patrick’s Day holiday, it’s worth a trip down to the river to watch the boats turn the river green with dye. They have it so perfected, I was told they even sent their recipe for this special dye to Ireland. It’s an annual event and gathers quite a crowd. A great way to kick off your celebration!

Chicago is worth your time to visit… whether to just have a weekend escape or to acknowledge a special event, it will satisfy all your needs!
