I have been to Costa Rica 5 times but the last trip was one of my favorites. The location I stayed was top notch on the edge of Manuel Antonio National Park which is home to a variety of exotic birds, several species of monkeys and other animals. Being a Zoology buff, it was perfect!

The flight goes into San Jose and they arrange a transport to pick you up and drive the 3 hours south to the resort. The driver will stop for drinks and lunch along the way and allow you to gaze on the Crocodile bridge which is a cool photo spot to look down into a river full of 15′ crocodiles below. Lots of interesting stories are told about that bridge and you truly feel minuscule when watching those enormous reptiles.

Tulemar is a resort which is situated on the side of hillside outside of the city of Quepos. It consists of 33 acres of forest and stand alone houses, villas and bungalows all surrounded by nature and many with views of the water. There are 4 swimming pools, 4 restaurants, spa services, a beach bar, maid service and a full concierge desk to assist with any excursions you desire.

I chose the day “booze/snorkeling cruise” , waterfall hike & the night jungle tour. All were lots of fun and a great way to see a different perspective. Quepos has a newly constructed Marina with restaurants and there was a large fishing tournament going on when we were there which made it very busy. The Ritz has just purchased a chunk of property next to the marina to develop so it is only going to grow. The resort is a quiet oasis just far enough from the city life.

The gated entrance leads to winding pathways spotted with houses and bungalows which lead down to their private sandy beach. There is even a walking tour of the grounds which is run by the sloth center and they point out sloths living on the grounds that you would have missed otherwise.

The people were friendly, the food was spectacular & the grounds are stunning From the squawks of the scarlet macaws flying over in the morning to the visits from the troops of capuchin, squirrel and howler monkeys on your porch, I was in heaven!

I highly recommend this spot and will review another spot in CR not to miss as well!
